So you’ve been invited to a Queen’s Birthday Weekend costume party – but what to wear?! Stay calm – here at First Scene we have taken a moment to put together a little list of some Queen-themed costumes to help you along.
You could do a lot worse than look to the lady herself! A good 90 years in the public eye means there are plenty of Queen Elizabeths for you to choose from.
But Elizabeth ain’t the only Queen on the block, how about the other Elizabeth, or Queen Victoria, or the Queen Mother?
And closer to home we have our own queens to honour, the late Maori Queen Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu, Queen Salote of Tonga and of course local Beauty Queen Lorraine Downes.
Who says you have to be an earth queen?
And while we are in Space, why not dress up as the evil, masked Queen Yllana in 1958 cult classic The Queen of Outer Space? If masks aren’t your thing you could dress as Taleeah, the Venusian scientist with the mysterious Hungarian accent, played by the ever-wonderful Zsa Zsa Gabor in a series of leg-splitty dresses that Angelina Jolie would be proud of.
(An interesting side note here is that many of the costumes for The Queen of Outer Space, were recycled from seminal, 1956 sci-fi feature The Forbidden Planet.)
But we digress! Sick of all these Lady-Queens? Want to break free? Freddy Mercury of Queen could be the way to go!
Or you could be a Queen of the Desert …
or the Queen of all Drag Queens…
Or Queen of the Nile …
How about a Queen Bee …
Or a Bee Queen?
… or a Prom Queen?
You get the picture! There’s a million ways to go.
Have a wonderful long weekend from the team at First Scene!
